A few hours in Philadelphia

Fountain Fun

I spent one day in Philadelphia recently. Just a few hours on a hot summer afternoon. The Swann Memorial Fountain, despite the 'no swimming' signs, was full of people enjoying the cooling waters.

Finally, a decision

Drum roll please...

The kids talked me into it. I'm headed to Houston for a few days. Next is a flight to Philadelphia to see friends for a few days. Then a flight to meet my traveling Eurokids (the Fab Four) in Rome. After a few amazing days in Rome with the kids I'm taking the train to Venice. Three and a half delicious days to get lost and photograph in Venice while the Fab Four soak up the lights and food of Paris. This is such a sweet and unexpected opportunity. Hope everybody is traveling safe this summer. Ciao !

Where to go?

Such difficult choices

Such difficult choices

Yesterday I watched with pride and a bit of envy as my youngest, my son, flew to London and then on to two weeks in Europe with his friends. He made it safely and today is the first day of his adventure.

Then suddenly, out of nowhere last night, I received an opportunity to spend a week in Europe....anywhere I want to go (next week). That's like standing outside Tiffany's and being told you can have one thing. It's so hard.

I didin't want to interfere with the kids' trip so I thought maybe Venice. They weren't planning to go there. I've been there before and could successfully simply relax and take pictures. After a few ping-chats with the kids this morning, though, they want me to meet up with them in Rome. So maybe it's Rome. I've been to Rome too and I love it as much. Maybe a few days in Venice and a train to Rome. I don't know. I do know it's all very exciting.

I'll let you know where I end up next week.

My very first entry

New York City June 2011

Photographs, Food and Other Discoveries

I have a blog. Another blog. But because I can't add photographs to it, it's boring. So this morning I went in search of a new travel blog. A blog I could add photographs to, which is why we travel isn't it? At least it's why I travel. And for the food. And of course the shopping.

I am a photographer and I love my work. I love my home too. But sometimes the most fun thing of all is to take my camera and get lost on the streets of someplace that isn't my home. No matter how long I do this I'm sure I look like a kid in a candy store...wandering, smiling and pushing the shutter button. Sometimes I can't wait to look at the photos but I have to catch up on my work, so they sit for a few weeks. When I finally get to them it's like I'm taking my trip all over again.

I do take trips that are long...sometimes. Most of the time I take trips that are short....really short. Not even mini-vacations. Quick trips that might only last 2-3 days. Just enough to get a sense and a taste of the place.

So I begin with my first entry which is my trip to New York City in June. I do have a restaurant recommendation. Do you like Cuban? If you don't, you will after you eat at Victor's Cafe 52 on 52nd Street between 8th and Broadway. This was my second meal there and both were wonderful. Doesn't a Mango Mojito sound good? I tried the tamale appetizer and it was almost an open-faced tamale. Delicious!

The next step is to add a few photos....wish me luck!
